BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:

THIS  INVENTION relates to a portable receptacle for goods. It relates in particular to a bag incorporating a sunshade and two side windshields.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:

According to one aspect of the invention, there is provided a portable receptacle for goods, a side wall of the receptacle being adapted, in use, to fold out to form a sunshade.
According to another aspect of the invention, there is provided a sunshade which, when not in use, forms a side wall of a portable receptacle for goods.
According to another aspect of the invention, there may be provided two rigid flaps, which are fast with the edges of the side wall forming the sunshade. When not in use, the flaps are folded against the inside of the said side wall.

In use, the flaps are folded out to form windshields diagonal to the side walls of the receptacle.
By “goods” in this specification is meant particularly, but not exclusively, goods for use on a beach, picnic, camping, daytrip, outdoor event, garden, such as cushions, swimsuits and towels, spectacles, newspapers, journals, books, medicaments and the like.
The receptacle may include a foldable mattress. Thus, in use, the receptacle may be placed on the ground to that the side wall forming the sunshade can be folded out from the receptacle and away from the ground, and the mattress can then be folded open and positioned adjacent the side wall resting on the ground.
In one version, the mattress may be padded. In another version, the mattress may be inflatable.
In another version, the mattress may be provided with side pockets for sand to hold the mattress in the desired position.

The side wall forming the sunshade may have adjusting means for adjusting the degree to which it, in use, folds out from the receptacle.
The side walls of the receptacle may be provided with pockets for at least some of the goods.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:

The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which

Figure 1 shows a three-dimensional view of a receptacle for goods according to the invention, the receptacle being shown with the side wall forming the sunshade folded out and ready for use;

Figure 2 shows a three-dimensional view of the receptacle of Figure 1, with the side wall forming the sunshade folded in; and the rigid flaps forming the windshields folded in;

Figure 3 shows a sectional view through a III – III in Figure 2; and

Figure 4 shows another version of the invention, namely a three-dimensional view of a receptacle for goods according to the invention, the receptacle being shown with the side wall forming the sunshade as well as the two side windshields, folded out and ready for use.

DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT:
In the drawings, reference numeral 10 generally indicates a portable receptacle for goods. A side wall 12 of the receptacle is adapted, in use, to fold out to form a sunshade (as shown in Figure 1).

The receptacle 10 includes a fold-able mattress 14 which fits loosely inside the receptacle 10 when not in use (as shown in Figures 2 and 3), and a cushion 16. When not in use, the cushion 16 can be stored in a pocket 18 provided on the side wall 12 (as shown in Figures 2 and 3), the pocket 18 being on the outside of the receptacle. In another version (not shown) the cushion 16 can be stored inside the receptacle 10 and books stored in the pocket 18. If desired, one edge of the mattress 14 may be fast with the edge 28.1 of the side wall 28 (not shown). The mattress 14 and the cushion 16 are padded. In another version, the mattress 14 may be held in place by sand pockets 42 (as shown in Figure 4).

The receptacle 10, apart from the side wall 12, also has a side wall 28. The receptacle further has two end walls 24 and 26 and the base 22. The side walls 12 and 28 and the end walls 24 and 26 extend upwardly from the base 22, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The end wall 24 is fast with the side wall 28 along one corner of the receptacle, and the end wall 26 is fast with side wall 28 along another corner of the receptacle. The side wall 12 is pivotally attached to the base 22. When the side wall 12 is not in use as a sunshade, it is fastened to the end walls 24 and 26 by means of sliding clasp fasteners 30 and 32 respectively.

The receptacle 10 also has two handles 20, attached to the side walls 12 and 28 respectively near the top of the receptacle for carrying it.

The edge 12.1 of the side wall 12 is provided with a flap 34 which, in use, provides additional protection from the sun to a person using the sunshade.

The base 22 is provided with a pocket 22.1 on the inside of the receptacle. Likewise, the end walls 24 and 26 are provided with pockets, such as pocket 26.1, on the inside of the receptacle. The pockets 22.1 and 26.1 are provided with sliding clasp fasteners. The end walls 24 and 26 are also provided with pockets on the outside of the receptacle, such as pocket 24.1.

The side wall 12 is provided with two adjusting means comprising two foldable arms 36 pivotally connected to the side wall 12 and end walls 24 and 26. The arms 36 are frictionally restrained against pivoting above the axes of pins 36.1 so as, in use, to permit folding out of the side wall 12 to any desired degree.

In use, the receptacle 10 is placed on the ground with the side wall 28 to the bottom. The sliding clasp fasteners 30 and 32 are undone, and side wall 12 folded out to form a sunshade. The sunshade is held in the desired position by the frictional restrained of the arms above the axes of pins 36.1.

The mattress 14 is unfolded and placed adjacent the edge 28.1 of the side wall 28. The cushion 16 is placed within the receptacle on the side wall 28.

The pockets 22.1 and 26.1 are suitable for carrying medicament and sunglasses, while the pocket 24.1 is suitable for carrying a book. Beachwear goods such as swimsuits and towels, as well as books, may be stored within the receptacle 10, when it is folded up.

In use, the flap 34 provides additional protection from the sun when it hangs down, as shown in Figure 1. However, the flap 34 may also be folded back onto the side wall 12 to allow a person lying on the cushion 16 greater visibility, for example to allow him to read a book.

The end walls 24 and 26, in use, also provide protection from wind and blown sand. In another version, side windshields 38 and 40 provide protection from wind and blown sand, when folded out, as shown in Figure 4.
